UNEP-ROWA has been providing technical support to Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) to improve environmental performance, including CP and energy efficiency pilot projects. Also, UNEP-ROWA is carrying out advocacy of Environmental Management System (EMS), eco-design and eco-mapping as tools to manage environmental performance, building on the Programme to Improve Participation in EMS and Build Capacity for their Implementation in West Asia. Furthermore, we are Endorsing of voluntary initiatives in industry including corporate citizenship, Global Compact, Global Reporting Initiatives, Responsible Care, Eco Labeling and UNEP’s International Sectoral Initiatives (e.g., Offshore Oil & Gas Environmental Forum, OEF).
Moreover, working with CAMRE’s Steering Committee on Industry & Environment, UNEP-ROWA has been developing Arab Manuals & Guidelines on Pollution Limits, EMS, EIA, IEM, and environmental self-monitoring and Auditing in various industrial sectors (e.g., textile industry, cement, tanneries…etc.)
Furthermore, pursuant to UNEP-ROWA’s regional initiative, adopted and endorsed through a resolution by the Council of Arab Housing and Construction Ministers (CAHCM), an Arab Consortium of stakeholders was formed to co-organize the 1st Arab Forum on SBC (Cairo - Egypt, December 2004), in preparation for Tokyo SBC05 Conference (September 2005). The Forum’s Committee includes UNEP-ROWA, the League of Arab States (LAS), the Arab Union of Cement and Building Materials (AUCBM), and Egypt National Housing and Building Research Center (HBRC). Other Arab governments and organizations are also invited to take part.
The Main Objectives:

To strengthen awareness of and encourage industry and business (and other stakeholders) to develop and adopt environmentally sound policies, strategies and practices in crosscutting fronts.

To support Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs).

To disseminate information, experiences and success stories, especially from leading industrial sectors in the region (Oil & Gas) to encourage progress and supply chain approach to environmental management & sustainable industrial development.
