West Asia Strategy
The Strategy for Capacity Building on Integrated Environmental Assessment in West Asia is in line with UNEP/DEWA global capacity building goals. The Strategy is guided by the Bali Strategic Plan of Action (2004) and takes full consideration of the major points emphasized in it. It should be noted that, before its finalization, this Strategy has gone through a consultative validation process. A specific meeting was held in Manama, Bahrain for that purpose for WANEA in November 2004. A wide range of environmental stakeholders in the West Asia region attended the meeting and actively participated in the validation process.
Vision
The vision of this Strategy is that by the year 2010 the West Asia region should have adequate institutional and individual capacity for the implementation of the integrated environmental assessment methodology in a sustainable manner. By then, a regional process of integrated environmental assessment should be in place in order to support and enhance policy and decision making processes at the national and regional levels for better environmental management and sustainable development.
