ROWA is also the host of the Regional Coordinator for the sub regional programme (SRAP), which is being coordinated by the Global Mechanism (GM) of the UNCCD.

One of ROWA’s major priorities is the implementation of the provisions of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) especially through the development and implementation of an Arab Region Desertification Strategy. Accordingly, UNEP coordinates the regional programmes for natural resource management, desertification and biodiversity. ROWA is the host of the Regional Coordinator for the sub regional action programme (SRAP), which is being coordinated by the Global Mechanism (GM) of the UNCCD. SRAP is strongly supported by CAMRE technical secretariat and both are actively pursuing closer coordination with the GM, UNSO and the UNCCD Secretariat. It has also allocated additional budget to enable the natural resource management officer to assist member states of Western Asia to finalize their national action plans
